A New World Order

In collaboration with George Magnus, an associate of the China Centre at Oxford University and former chief economist of UBS, we have been re-examining some of the structural forces that have characterised global economics and finance in the past several decades and believe that major changes are occurring:

  • The defining trend in global economics and finance in the last 30+ years has been the structural deflationary impetus across the global economy with the corresponding decline in interest rates which has led to a secular inflation of asset values.

  • The defining trend in geopolitics over the same period has been the rise of China and its integration into the global economy and trading system.
